Born in 1997, Elisa Sanchez lives and works in Strasbourg.
Elisa Sanchez’s artistic practice – whether in performance, text, installation, textile or video – seeks to create hybrid narratives in order to imagine desirable futures.
Her proposals tend to form ecosystems capable of deploying fictional devices.
Her research territory lies somewhere between the Wild West and the stars, the streets of Strasbourg and those of Shanghai, the virtual universe of video games and the infinity of space. The stories she tells are peopled by attentive ferns, lesbian astronauts and rebellious cows. Through slippage, humour and misappropriation, Elisa Sanchez questions the way we make the world, while at the same time inscribing poetic elements into it.
She is developing a reflection on the ways in which art is made, with an ecology of production, an economy of means and a presence that is both gentle and militant.
Élisa Sanchez graduated from the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg in 2021 with honours, after taking part in the ‘creation and globalisation’ research programme in Shanghai in 2019.
Her work has been shown at CRAC Alsace (Altkirch), Former Civil Defence Works Basement (Shanghai, China), 19 (Montbéliard), Casino Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Syndicat Potentiel (Strasbourg), MCL (Metz) and HEK (Basel, Switzerland) and at several festivals in France and abroad.
